Together, we can tackle the issues that
interfere with a well-balanced and happy life.
My clients often describe me as a highly empathetic and engaged therapist - a compassionate listener with a strong intuitive sense. Stress, acute crisis, and interpersonal, family or work-related conflicts can all create ineffective ways of coping, possibly resulting in substance abuse, anxiety, depression, obsessive thinking, perfectionism, and other unhealthy conditions. Distorted perceptions may also cause individuals to look at life through a lens of negativity with no relief in sight. By identifying your strengths and opportunities for self-discovery, together we can tackle the issues that interfere with a well-balanced and happy life.
I use two proven methods of treating trauma, Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). SE is a gentle model that helps identify, normalize and heal often unexplained or persistent symptoms that may be due to the effects of unresolved trauma and a thwarted fight or flight response. EMDR therapy is a technique used to reprocess traumatic experiences into productive ways of coping by resolving painful memories. As a certified practitioner in both of these evidence-based therapies, I often dovetail them to customize treatment to meet your unique needs.
Couples may arrive to therapy not able to name the exact reasons for being there but knowing something is off, like ongoing feelings of anger or disconnect. Or, the problem can be more apparent like a betrayal of trust, or a shift in intimacy. Sometimes daily bickering about small things can indicate a larger problem that, once exposed, can be resolved. I use proven tools, developed by leading institutions that are based on relationship skill-building to effectively break the difficult cycles of conflict. In doing so, I find ways to help couples cherish each other again. And, if a couple arrives at the difficult decision to part ways, I provide divorce counseling to help navigate the process of separating.
I tailor treatment to meet your individual needs. Many of the specific conditions I focus on include:
Childhood emotional neglect or abuse
Marital and couples issues, divorce and relationship abuse
Trauma from accidents, disasters or violence
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Treating addiction or healing from someone else's addiction
Intimacy and sexuality
Chronic pain and illness
Grief and complicated loss
Self-care and achieving calmness
